 | Visit your health care practitioner regularly and be certain your
feet are examined at each visit. Taking off your shoes and socks is a good
reminder. |
 | Wash your feet daily, and dry them carefully--especially between the
toes. Apply a lotion to moisturize the skin. |
 | Check your feet and in-between your toes daily. Look for blisters, cuts
and scratches. |
 | If you have a foot infection, report it quickly to your health care
professional. |
 | Before you put your shoes on, check for pebbles or other objects
inside the shoe that could hurt your feet. |
 | Before bathing, use your finger or elbow (not your feet) to check the
water temperature. |
 | Be careful with hot water bottles, heating pads or electric blankets.
Burns may occur without feeling them. |
 | Never walk barefoot. |
 | Do not cut corns or calluses yourself. Let your health care
practitioner cut them. |
 | Cut your toenails straight across. |
 | Wear shoes that fit and are comfortable. |
 | Change your socks daily. Socks should be smooth and even. |
 | If your feet begin to tingle or burn, see a health care professional. |
